What You Will Learn

  • The Taoist concept of Yin and Yang, understanding how Yin yoga balances the more active Yang styles by focusing on stillness, surrender, and introspection.

  • Targeting Connective Tissues: A key focus is on the unique way Yin yoga targets the deeper connective tissues (ligaments, fascia, tendons, and joints) rather than muscles, leading to increased flexibility, joint health, and improved circulation.

  • The Three Tattvas (Principles of Practice): Finding an appropriate edge; finding stillness; and holding poses for an extended duration.

  • Mind-Body Connection: Students explore the relationship between the physical body, the subtle energetic body (Qi - Prana, and Meridians - Nadis), and the emotional and mental aspects of the practice.

  • Yin teaching methodology and skills:

    • Sequencing and Class Planning: Learning to design balanced and effective Yin yoga sequences, use of props, and appropriate counterposes.

    • Cueing and Adjustments: Developing clear, concise, and compassionate verbal cues that encourage introspection and support safe alignment, while understanding the role of props as assists.

    • Holding Space and Mindfulness: Creating a calm, safe, and supportive environment for students to explore stillness, cultivate mindfulness, and deepen their understanding of their internal experience.
